Wishbone Necklace

Wishbone Necklace

Description:  The Wishbone Necklace is a very easy Micro-Macrame project for beginners. This particular necklace design is Y-shaped, and doesn’t require a clasp.    So it needs to be large enough to fit over the head.  In general, that’s around 26 to 30 inches long.  Contact me if you need to make this project with a clasp, and I will be happy to modify it for you.

Supplies Needed:

  • 2mm Satin Cord, or similar soft material
  • Glass Crow-Roller Beads with 4mm holes
  • Project Board and Pins or Tape

Knots Used:

Step 1:  You need four strands of cord material, each 2.5 times the length you need for the necklace.  For example:  For a 28-inch necklace, cut the cords so they are 70 inches long.

Step 2: Secure the cords to a project board with pins, or use tape to hold them on your table.  Make sure they are vertical. Position the pins or tape 12 inches from one end.  If you use Satin Cord, the tape is the best method.  You can also use the Cross-Pin Technique to secure the cords.

Step 3:  Mentally number the cords 1 thru 4.  Pass cords 1 and 4 through a bead, entering into the hole in the same direction.  Slide it up as far as you can, close to where the cords are secured.

The bead needs to rest between cords 2 and 3.  Make sure cords 1 and 4 pass over cords 2 and 3.

Step 4:  Pass cords 2 and 3 through another bead, making sure they pass over cords 1 and 4.  When you slide it up, make sure the bead fits between cords 1 and 4.

Step 5:  Repeat step 3 and 4 over and over, until the Wishbone Necklace is the size you want.

Step 6:  Form a U-shape with the necklace, so the ends are heading in the same direction, and they are side-by-side.  Mentally number the ends 1 - 8.  Tie a Square Knot with cords 1 thru 4, and another one with cords 5 thru 8.

Just below, tie a Square Knot with cords 3 thru 6.  Slide a button or other decoration onto cords 4 and 5.  Tie another SK with cords 3 thru 6.

Just below, tie 2 SK with cords 1 – 4 and 5 – 8.

Step 7:  Organize the cords into four sets of two strands.  Apply 4 or 5 beads, followed by a Barrel Knot.  Apply glue and cut off the excess material.
