Twist Loop Bracelet

Description: This Twist Loop Bracelet was a challenging Macrame pattern for me to write, since I had only a photo to refer to. But it’s a very easy project, suitable for children as well as beginners. This interesting technique can be used to make key chains, belts, and other items. What makes this Micro-Macrame design so unique is that it does not use any of the basic knots.
Kim Roslewicz inspired me to create this pattern, when she sent me a photo and asked me to outline the steps necessary to create this awesome bracelet. |

Supplies Needed:
- Two colors of 2mm to 6mm Macramé Cord (Nylon, Rattail, or Cotton)
- Project Board and Pins
- Button or Bead for Clasp
| |
| |
| Step 1: Cut 1 strand of material, 70 inches long. Mentally label it Color A, which is the yellow cord you see in the images for the Twist Loop Bracelet. Cut 1 strand of Color B material (purple color), at least 40 inches long (for an 8-inch bracelet). Prepare the ends with glue, tape, or wax to prevent unraveling. |
| |
| |
| |
Step 2: Place the Color B cord (left) over the Color A strand (Right), making an “X” shape. Match up the center of the strands.
Secure the cords with pins, at the crossing point. |
| |
| |
| Note: If you are using Satin, Silk or Leather Cord to make the Twist Loop Bracelet, use the Cross Pin technique to secure the strands. |
| |
| |
| |
Step 3: Bring the top half of both cords towards you, to form circular loops. The left cord (Color B) should cross over the right (Color A). Secure the crossing point just below the pins holding the first crossed area. |
| |
| |
| Now take a good look at the design. There should be 3 distinct spaces; the left loop, the central area between the bottom half of the cords, and the right loop. |
| |
| |
| |
Step 4: Use the bottom half of the Color B cord, which is on the right, and direct it into the central space, and weave out through the left loop, heading upward and to the left. |
| |
| |
| |
The bottom half of the Color A cord, on the left, should be passed through the center space, and into the right loop as it's brought to the right. |
| |
| |
| |
Step 5: Tighten the knots, by pulling on the ends. Arrange the cords so the strands on the inside are both color A, which are the longest cords. They should be heading vertically.
Secure the knot to your board. |
| |
| |
| Pull on a portion of one of the Color B cords, to make a small loop. This forms one end of the clasp for the Twist Loop Bracelet. Make sure the button fits through the loop. You can see it in the image above and below. |
| |
| |
| |
Step 6: Direct the outer strands into a circle, which should both be Color B. In the image, these are the purple cords.
Cross the left cord over the right. You can secure the circle at the crossing point if you wish. |
| |
| |
Step 7: Direct the ends of the inner strands (Color A) up and over the crossing point of the Color B cords.
Pass the ends between the portions of the Color A strands that are running through the center of the circle. Bring the ends down and towards you, so they are vertical once again. |
| |
| |
| Step 8: Tighten the the knot by pulling on all 4 ends gradually. It's best if you tighten the Color A cords first, then remove the slack from the Color B strands. |
| |
Step 9: Repeat steps 6 thru 8 until the Twist Loop Bracelet is the length you want. Make sure you leave at least 5 inches of material for the clasp.
Step 10: To make the clasp, tie a Square Knot with all 4 cords (2 fillers). Slide the bead or button onto at least 2 of the cords. Tie another Square Knot just below it. Direct the ends to the back of the Twist Loop Bracelet, weaving them into the knots. Apply glue to hold them in place. |
