Triangle Bracelet
|

|
| |
Description: This Triangle Bracelet features a very unique, vintage knot. It is seldom seen in modern Macrame patterns. I found this interesting decorative knot in a book written in 1903, so it’s been around for a while. This particular bracelet design uses an alternating pattern of Triangle Knots.
Before you get started, you might want to practice the knot, making it in both directions. The instructions and images below will explain how, but you should visit the page for this specific knot, located in the Learn Macrame section.
Kelley Klein created the bracelet shown above, and used natural as well as colored Hemp. She inspired me to write this interesting Macrame pattern. You can check out her other Macrame bracelets at: http://www.etsy.com/shop/HempAve

Creating the Clasp |
| |
Step 1: Cut 2 strands of each color, 8 times the size you want the Triangle Bracelet to end up. For example: For a 7-inch bracelet, cut the cords at least 56 inches long. Prepare the ends with glue, tape, or wax, to prevent unraveling.
If you prefer, you can use 3mm to 4mm size material, so you don't have to double the cords. Then you will only need 1 strand of each color. |
| |
| |
| |
 |
|
Step 2: Secure the cords to your board, in the center. Tape works better than pins for this step. Twist the strands around each other a few times, and fold the cords in half. |
|
|
| |
| |
| |
 |
|
Tie an Overhand knot, leaving a ½-inch to 1-inch loop. Make sure the button or bead you are using for the clasp fits through it. Secure the knot to your board with a pin. |

Right Triangle Knots |
| |
Step 3: Organize the cords into three sections (right – left – center), as shown in the photo above. There should be four strands in the middle group, all the same color. Mentally label them Color B. The two groups on either side of the center are the Color A strands.
In each group, the cords will work together as if they were a single strand. |
| |
| Step 4: Follow these instructions to make the Triangle Knots on the right side of the bracelet pattern: |
| |
A: Make a sideways U-shaped bight (narrow fold) with two of the Color B strands in the middle group. Use the ones closest to the right side of the design. The curved portion of the bight should be heading right. |
| |
| |
| |
 |
|
B: Direct the two Color A strands on your right over the bight, near the crook (curved portion). Bring the end under it next, heading clockwise.
C: Bring the cord to the top of the Triangle knot, and pass it under the Color B and over the Color A strands. |
|
|
| |
| |
D: Bring the end down, passing it into the space next to the crook of the bight (where it curves). Tighten the knot by pulling on the ends with equal force. |
| |
| |
Left Triangle Knots |
| |
| Step 5: Now you need to make the Triangle knot in the opposite direction, so the Triangle Bracelet is balanced. |
| |
A: Take the remaining two Color B cords in the center, and form the U-shaped bight so it curves to the left. |
| |
| |
| |
 |
|
B: Direct the two Color A strands on your left over the bight, near the crook. Next, bring the end under it, heading counter-clockwise.
C: At the top of the knot, pass under the Color B and over the Color A cords. |
|
|
| |
| |
| D: Direct the end down to the crook of the bight, and pass into the space. Tighten the knot by pulling on both ends equally. |
| |
| |
| |
 |
|
Step 6: You will now use the four cords that came from the central group (all Color B), alternating the pattern. Tie either a Right OR Left Triangle Knot.
It doesn't matter which way the central knots face, as long as you are consistent, tying them all in the same direction. |
|
|
| |
| |
Step 7: Repeat steps 4 thru 6 until the Triangle Bracelet is the size you need. |
| |
| |
| |
 |
|
Step 8: Divide the cords up into two equal groups. Direct each group through the bead or shank of the button, heading into it in opposite directions. Tie a tight Square Knot (no fillers). Apply glue to the knot and allow it to dry completely.
You can either cut off the excess, or trim the ends to 2 inches and weave them into the back of the Triangle bracelet. |
