Soft Sandals

Description: These Soft Sandals used to be worn and unattractive, but were transformed into something nice and comfortable. Do your favorite sandals need some help? This Macrame pattern will help you decorate them. You can use any type of cord material, but make sure it is soft against the skin. |

Supplies Needed:
- 6mm Cord material (2 colors)
- Sandals

Decorative Knots Used:

Cutting Cords: You will be covering each of the straps for the sandal. Measure each strap separately and write the number on a piece of paper. Cut 1 strand of each color, 7 times the measurement you wrote down. Do this for all the straps. I found it easier to measure out the cords for 1 strap at a time, so I couldn’t mix them up. Prepare the ends somehow, so the cords don’t unravel. |

Covering the Straps |
| |
Step 1: Center 1 strand under the first strap, in the middle of it. You will work from the center of the strap towards the ends. Tie 1 Larks Head, using the strap as if it were a holding cord. Make several more knots, to one side of the first one, until you reach the end of the strap. You’ll use only one half of the cord to make the sennit.
Take the second half of the cord, and tie more Larks Heads until you reach the opposite end of the strap. Push the knots close together, so there is no space between them. |
| |
Step 2: Take the second cord, and center it at the middle of the same strap. Make a Larks Head knot, so the ends pass to either side of the first knot made with the other cord. Be sure the “head” of the knot is resting at the opposite edge of the strap. |

|
As you make a new sennit of Larks Heads, pass the ends through the loops along the edges of the first set of knots. Essentially, the second color is inside the first color. Click on the image to take a closer look to understand this important step. |

| Step 3: Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the other straps. Before you cover the straps that contain the clasps, see the options below. |

Finishing Touches |
| |
Step 4: Is the original clasp Velcro? If so, you have 2 choices. Either avoid covering the area with the Velcro strip, or use a different method to close the Soft Sandals around your foot. If the shoes are loose enough, you may be able to slide them on without opening the clasp. In that case, you can cover the clasp with the knots.
Is the original clasp a buckle? Make sure the covered strap fits through it. If it doesn’t, you may need to leave that area uncovered, or replace the buckle with something larger.
Another closure option is to leave the ends long in that area, and pass them through the buckle to close the sandals. |
| |
| Step 5: To secure the ends of all the cords, tie tight SK without fillers, so it rests on the under side of the straps. Apply glue, and allow it to dry completely. Cut off the excess. |
