| Description:
This Simple Chain Necklace is a children's project that’s
also suitable for adults just learning Macrame. There are
only 2 knotting techniques you need to know. This necklace
can be embellished with beads, and any type of pendant can
be used.
Supplies Needed:
- Cotton Embroidery cord, or similar material
- Beads
- Pendant
- Button for clasp
Knots Used: Alternating
Half Hitch, Buttonhole
Clasp, Overhand
Knot
Step 1: Cut 1 strand of cord, 90 inches
in length. Then cut a second cord, 100 inches long. Slide
the pendant on the shorter cord, so it rests in the center.
Step 2: Match up one end of both cords.
Make an Overhand Knot with the long cord, around both portions
of the short one, just above the pendant. Pull it tight.
You should now have four strands to work with.
Step 3: Use the two strands that are matched
up, and tie a chain of Alternating Half Hitches. Stop when
the chain is 3 inches. Add a bead, and continue the chain.
Repeat this pattern until the necklace is as long as you
wish to make it. Pass both strands through the opening in
the button. Tie a tight Overhand Knot and apply glue. Cut
off the excess cord when the glue is dry.
Step 4: Use the other two strands, and
follow the same pattern of Alternating Half Hitches.
Step 5: When you get to the end, use the
longer cord to tie 10 or more knots to make the Buttonhole
Clasp. Make sure the button fits through it. Instead of
tying a Square Knot to form the clasp, make a tight Overhand
knot with one strand around the other. If you wish, you
can switch cords and tie a second one. Apply glue to the
knot, and allow it to dry. Cut off any remaining cord. |
