Picot Key Ring
|
| |
|
| |
| Description:
The Picot Key Ring’s primary feature is a design made
by a series of Square Knot Picots. You can create different
designs with this pattern, including a Pine Tree shape. Try
making this Macrame key ring with the Spiral Stitch Picot;
the decorative effect is quite interesting.
Supplies Needed:
- 2mm Macrame cord or similar material
- Beads (optional)

| Step
1: Cut 2 strands of cord, each 50 inches long. Make
a Lanyard Knot in the center of the 2 cords. Flip the knot
over and secure it to your Project board. Next, make a Square
Knot using all 4 strands (2 fillers), 1 inch below the first
knot.
Step 2: Move down another 1/4 inch, and
tie a chain of 5 Square Knots. Direct all the ends into
the space to make the Square Knot Button. Switch cords,
so the shortest ones are the fillers, before you make the
Square Knot below the button to secure it.
Step 3: Move down another ½ inch,
and tie a Square knot. Slide it up to rest beside the previous
one. Repeat this process 4 or 5 more times if you want the
loops along the side (the picots) to be the same size. See
the other variations of the picot key ring below. |

For a Pine
Tree:
The first knot in Step 3 should be only ¼ inch below
the knot securing the button. The next should be ½
inch away from the first. The next 3 knots need to be tied
1 inch, 1½ inch, and 2 inches away from the previous
one. |
|
| |
| A Butterfly Shape can be made
by spacing the first Square Knot 3 inches below the one securing
the button, followed by another knot spaced 1½ inches
away. |

 |
|
For a Spiral Effect:
Instead of using Square Knots use the Spiral Stitch instead.
You will need to space the knots approx. 1 inch apart to
create the picots. This Macrame pattern also looks best
if you make it at least 6 inches long. |
|
| |
| Step 4: Cut a short length of cord and
make a Wrapped Knot. After it’s tightened, take the
end and bring it down just below the knot. Make a half hitch
around all the other strands. Choose a different end, and
make another half hitch, again around all the others. Then
tie a tight Overhand Knot with the last strand used. This
creates a loop for hanging the keys.
If you prefer, you can omit the Wrapped Knot and add beads
instead, making a tight Overhand knot just below to secure
them..
Cut off any remaining cord, and apply glue to the last
knots tied. |
