Pendant Earrings
|
| |
|
| |
| Description: These Pendant Earrings feature a small pendant-style bead,
which are not usually seen in earring patterns. This is Micro-Macrame
at its best, since these hoop earrings call for very delicate
cord. Be sure to review the knots before you get started,
so you know what to expect.
Supplies Needed:
- 1mm Nylon, Silk, or similar material.
- 2 earring hooks
- 2 hoops
- (2) Pendants and (8) Glass Beads
- Project Board and Pins or Tape
Knots used:

Cutting the Cords and Adding the Pendant |
| |
Step 1: For the first pendant earring,
cut 2 strands of cord 60 inches in length. Locate the center
of both cords, and slide the pendant over both.
Tie an Overhand Knot using all four strands. Secure the
bead in some way to your board.
Step 2: Add another bead onto the center two strands. Use these cords as fillers, and tie a Square
Knot just below the bead. |

Creating the Design Inside the Hoop |
| |
Step 3: Lay the bottom of the hoop against
the knot you just finished.
Organize your cords so the middle two go over the hoop, and the outside two go under it. Tie another Square knot to secure the cords to the hoop.
Step 4: Tie a short chain of Square Knots.
Make enough of them to go a third of the way across the
hoop. The number will depend on the diameter of the hoop
you are using. Then thread all four cords through a bead,
if possible. If the hole is not big enough, use at least
two strands.
Step 5: Make another short chain of square
knots and add another bead. Then tie a final set of knots,
bringing you to the other side of the hoop (the top).
Step 6: Once again, organize the cords
so two will go over the hoop and the others under. Tie a
Square knot to secure the design running through the center.

Adding the Hook |
| |
Step 7: Feed all four strands through
the earring hook. Direct two through the hook from one direction,
and the others from the opposite direction. Make sure the
end of the hook is heading away from you.
Tie a tight Square Knot with the four strands, somewhere
between the hook and the hoop.
Step 8: Bring the two shortest strands
to the back of the earring and tie a tight Overhand Knot.
Trim the ends close to the knot, and apply glue to secure. |
| |
| |
Covering the Hoop with Knots |
| |
| Step 9: Now the remaining cords will be
used to tie two Larks Head Knot chains using the hoop as
the core. Use a single cord for the right half of the hoop,
and one for the left. When you get to the middle of the
ring, add a bead, and continue on until you reach the bottom. |
| |
| |
Finishing Touches |
| |
Step 10: Bring the ends to the back of
the earring, and tie a tight Overhand Knot. Trim the ends
close to the knot, and apply glue to secure.
Repeat the steps above for the
second pendant earring. |
