Metallica Bracelet

Metallica Bracelet

Description:  The Metallica Bracelet is made with round Leather cord and metal beads.  The width of this unique bracelet depends on the size of the beads you choose. This Micro-Macrame design is easy to make, even though working with Leather can be a challenge.  Be sure you know how to use the Cross Pin Technique to secure the cord to a project board.

You can click on the small images below to see larger ones.

Supplies Needed:

  • 1mm or 2mm Round Leather Cord in 2 colors
  • Metal beads with holes large enough for 2 strands
  • 1-inch Metal Shank type Button
  • Project Board and Pins and/or tape

Knots Used:

Cutting Instructions:

  • Color A:  Cut 2 strands, each 14 inches long (for an 8-inch bracelet)
  • Color B:  Cut 1 strand 36 inches long

First Half of Clasp

  Clasp

Step 1:  Take the Color A strands and tie a Barrel knot using both cords together.  Place it approximately 1 inch from one end.

Step 2:  Place a second Barrel Knot 1½ inches away from the first one.  The space between the 2 knots functions as a clasp for the button, which will be added later.

Secure both cords to your project board using the Cross Pin technique, so they are vertical.  Secure both ends so the cords can’t move.  If necessary, use tape to hold them in place.

Designing the Bracelet

Step 3:  Slide a bead onto the Color B strand, which is the working cord. Make sure it rests in the center of it.  Place it between the 2 Color A strands, next to the second Barrel Knot. Direct a pin diagonally through the hole to hold the bead steady.

Step 4:  Take the right end (Color B) and bring it first under the right portion of the Color A cord, then up and over it.  Direct the end through another bead, heading right to left.  Pass the end under the left portion of the Color A cord.

Step 5:  Take the left end next (Color B), and bring it under the left portion of the Color A cord. Then pass it over and through the second bead heading left to right.  Pass the end under the right Color A cord. This step is essentially the same as the previous one, only heading in the opposite direction.

Step 6:  Tighten the first "link" of the Metallica Bracelet by pulling on both ends with equal force, so the bead is balanced between the Color A strands.

Step 7:  Repeat steps 4 thru 6 over and over, until the bracelet is approximately 8 inches long.  You need 4 inches to finish, so if you have more than that left, it’s OK to make the bracelet longer than 8 inches.

Second Half of Clasp

  Metal Button for Clasp

Step 8:  To add the button for the clasp of the Metallica Bracelet, take 1 strand of each color, and direct them into the shank heading right to left.  Take the remaining 2 ends, and slide them into the shank, heading left to right.  Pull on the ends until the button is resting where you want it.

Step 9:  Using 2 ends as if they were one strand, tie the first half of a Square Knot (without fillers). Make it as tight as you can.  Try to place it against the shank, on one side of it.  Tie a second knot, so it rests on the opposite side of the shank.

Step 10:  Apply glue to both knots and allow it to dry completely.  Cut off the excess, and the Metallica bracelet is finished.
