Macrame Christmas Tree
|
| |
|
| |
Description:
This Macrame Christmas Tree is easy to make, and requires
you to know only a few types of knots. This holiday decoration
is designed to stand
on a table or other surface. You can add mini-sized Holiday
Ornaments, or make your own. Try making the Butterfly
Bookmark as an ornament, or a small version of
the Angel
door decoration (as seen in the image). Small
artificial birds, pine cones, popcorn garlands, or candy canes
are all fun ways to decorate this pretty tree.

Knots Used:

| |
Step 1:
Cut the cords as follows:
- 24 cords, each 7 yards long (252 inches)
- 12 cords, each 5 yards long (180 inches)
- 12 cords, each 3 yards long (108 inches)

Mounting the Cords |
| |
| Step 2: Mount 12 of the 7-yard cords to the smallest ring, which will
be at the top of the Macrame Christmas Tree. Use Larks Head
Knots, folding the cords in half as you do so. Using groups
of 4 strands, tie Square knots 2 to 3 inches below the ring.
Slide the knot up so it rests against the Larks head. This
forms the picot loops. Alternate cords, by moving over 2 strands.
Tie a second row of knots in the same way. |
| |
| |
Designing the Body |
| |
Step 3: Add six of the 7-yard cords to
the design, using Square Knots. Then tie a row of Square
Knot picots as in step 2. Alternate cords, and tie an additional
row of knots in the same manner.
Tip: Adding Cords -- You do this by positioning the new cord centered underneath one that is already in use. Tie a Square knot, using the new cord to make the knot, and the other one as a filler. Step 4: Repeat
step 3, add the remaiing 7-yard cords. |
| |
| Step 5:
Alternate the cords, by moving over 2 strands. Tie another
row of Square knots with picots. Alternate the cords in
each new row, and tie enough rows to complete 9 inches (from
the ring).
|
| |
| Step 6: Take
each strand and tie a Double Half Hitch onto the medium size
ring. It’s easier to do this if you start by passing
the cord under the ring first. Make the knots
snug, so that the bottom row of Square knot picots rests just
above the ring. |
| |
| Step 7: Tie at
least 9 more rows of Square Knots with picots, alternating
cords with each new row. Tie enough rows to make a 9-inch
design. Add the 5-yard cords after the 3rd row of knots, and
add the 3-yard cords after the 6th row. |
| |
| |
Bottom and Finishing Touches |
| |
| Step 8: Attach
all the cords to the large ring with Double Half Hitches.
If for some reason the ring is not completely covered, add
additional Half Hitches. |
| |
| Step 9: Trim
the strands so they are 4 inches in length. You can either
unravel the cords and brush to create a fluffy fringe, or
add beads to each cord, followed by a Barrel Knot. |
| |
| Step 10: Reach
inside the Macrame Christmas Tree and push the loops so they
stand out. Add purchased or handmade ornaments, and enjoy! |
