| Step 3:
Tie 3 Square Knots just below the clasp, using the six strands
you now have to work with (4 fillers). Make the knots tight, and apply glue. Let it dry for a while
before continuing. Cut off the 2 shortest strands, close to the knot.
Step 4: Take three of the
remaining cords and secure them to the
table so they have tension. These will function as fillers. Use the longest strand and tie
a Josephine Knot. As you design it, make sure you go around the fillers at least once. If you prefer, you can make the Josephine Knots with 2 working cords instead of one.
Step 5: Adjust the coils of the Josephine
Knot, and tie a Square knot just below using the three strands.
There will be only 1 filler. Add small beads to both working
cords, and tie another Square knot.
Step 6: Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have
five Josephine knots. Add a larger, round bead to one or more of the filler
cords, or to all of the cords, if the hole is large enough.
Tie a Square
knot just below the bead to secure it.
Step 7: Repeat step 6. You do not need to use the same strands as fillers, or to make the knots. You can switch them around if you need to. If you wish to make the Josephine Necklace longer, switching the strands around will give you extra cord to use.
Step 8: For this next section, you’ll
tie only 2 Josephine Knots, with a round bead after each one.
Remember, you can vary the pattern any way you wish, especially
with regards to the beads. Also, remember that there needs
to be a Square knot before and after each bead.
