Jewelry Organizers
| |
Description: These two unique Jewelry Organizers are easy projects, suitable for beginners. They are simple designs featuring picots that you can use to hang your earrings or other jewelry items. The hook style earrings can be placed on the loops, and you can push your post earrings into the knots. They are designed to hang on a wall, to give you extra room on your table or dresser. Amy R. French inspired me to create this Macramé project. |

Larks Head Design |
| |
| |
| Jewelry Organizers are easily made using Vertical Larks Head Knots. The loops are called Picots and they are very handy places for hook style earrings to dangle from. |
| |
Step 1: Cut 1 holding cord, 1 yard long. Cut 1 working cord, 4 yards long.
Prepare the ends using one of the techniques in Cord Preparation.
Step 2: Secure the holding cord to your project board so it is vertical, and directly in front of you. Make sure it is pulled taut.
Step 3: Find the center of both cords, and match them up at that point. Pinning them in the center, resting next to one another, is helpful. Use one end of the long cord to make a series of Vertical Larks Head knots. Start at the center, and work towards the ends. |
| |
| |
There should be 2 inches of space between the knots. By pushing them close together as you progress, picots will form. These are the loops that you will use to hang the earrings or other jewelry items. Tie the knots the same way so the “heads” all face the same direction. |
| |
Step 4: Stop when you get close to one end. Turn the Jewelry Organizer around, and repeat step 3 to make the other half.
Step 5: To finish off the ends, tie a Square Knot (no fillers). You can apply glue if you wish. Either cut off the excess, or apply beads to the tips for added decoration. |

Square Knot Design |
| |
| |
| Jewelry Organizers can be made with Square Knots, too. This design is a bit more elaborate, and there are 2 sets of picot loops. There is a large Loop in the center that can be used to hang necklace and bracelets. |
| |
Step 1: Cut 4 cords, each 4 yards long. Prepare the ends with one of the methods described in Cord Preparation.
Lay the strands side-by-side on your project board. It’s easier to work on this design if the cords are vertical, but they can be horizontal if you prefer.
Step 2: Find the center of the cords, which is where the first Square Knot will be placed. Tie the first half of the Square Knot using 2 working cords and 2 fillers. This is called a Half Knot. |
| |
Step 3: Pull the left cord to the side, just above the half knot. Pin it to your board. Try to make the loop at least ½ inch in size. |
| |
| Step 4: Tie the second half of the knot. The loop on the left is now complete. |
| |
| Step 5: Tie the next knot following steps 3 and 4. Leave ½ inch of space between the 2 knots. When the second SK is finished, push it up so it rests next to the first one. |
| |
| |
You should have one picot loop on the left, and another on the right. One picot should stand up at a 90 degree angle, while the other one lies flat. This design was turned sideways so you could see the loops more easily. |
| |
Step 6: Repeat step 5 until the design is half the size you want.
Step 7: Go back to the center where you started. Take the working cords (outside strands) and bring them between the fillers. |
| |
| |
Then take the fillers, and bring them between the working cords. Do this 2 more times, forming a “wrapped loop”, which will rest between the SK designs. You can place necklaces and bracelets through this loop to hang them with the earrings. |
| |
Step 8: Make the second half just like you did the first.
Step 9: Finish the ends by tying tight Square Knots using 2 strands for each knot, rather than all 4. Trim the ends and apply beads for decoration, followed by Barrel knots. |
