Holiday Jingle

  Holiday Jingle

Description:  The Holiday Jingle is an interesting Macrame pattern that uses the Josephine knot in a unique way. Rather than tying this decorative knot with a single cord, you make it with a thick chain made from Square Knots. Looking for a simple Holiday decoration to help your kids make this year? This Macrame project may be perfect for you!

Knots Used:

Supplies Needed:

  • 4mm to 6mm Macrame Cord (41 yards)
  • 8 Silver Bells (25mm size)
  • Small bunch of holiday flowers (taped together)
  • Measuring tape
  • Project Board and Pins

Step 1:  Cut 4 cords, each 10 yards long.  Prepare the ends with glue, tape or wax to prevent unraveling.  Cut 1 cord, 36 inches long (for step 6).

Step 2:  Find the center of the cords and secure them to your board at that point.  They should rest side-by-side, heading vertically.  Start in the center and work your way towards one end.  Tie a sennit of Square Knots, using 2 working cords and 2 fillers.  Stop when the first half is 15 inches long.

Step 3:  Turn the board around to work on the second half.  Start at the center and work your way to the opposite end of the cords. The first knot you tie will be the second half of the Square knot only. Tie the sennit of Square knots for another 15 inches.

Step 4:  Find the middle of the sennit and pin it to your board at that point.  Use the chain of SK to make a Josephine Knot.  Tighten and adjust it so the design is balanced. If you don't know how to make this knot, you can find it in the Learn Macrame section with the Celtic knots.

Step 5:  Bring all the cords together and tie 3 Square Knots.  Use 2 working cords and 6 fillers.

Step 6:  Place the bunch of holiday flowers so they rest next to the last knot tied.  Take the 36-inch cord and make a Wrapped Knot, around all the cords as well as the stem of the flowers.  Make this knot as tight as you can. Cut off the excess from the short cord only.

Step 7:  Trim the ends to approximately 12 to 15 inches from the Wrapped Knot.  Apply one bell to each strand, followed by a Barrel Knot.   Place the bells so they are at different areas on the cords.  Your Holiday Jingle is ready to be hung by the loop at the top.
