Easter Bunny

Description: This Easter Bunny comes complete with long ears, a button nose and fuzzy fur. Easter just isn’t complete without at least one cute rabbit on your wall, which is why I am including this Macrame pattern here in the kid’s section. Most children will enjoy making this easy Macrame animal with a little help from an adult. The finished size is approximately 18 inches tall.

Creating the Ears |
| |
Step 1: Take one of the 18-inch pieces of wire and fold it into a long oval shape to create the first ear for the Easter Bunny. Attach it to the top of the 6-inch ring, by wrapping the ends around it 2 or 3 times.
Step 2: Mount 4 strands of the Pink material for the ears to the top folded area of the wire, using Larks Head knots. Because you fold the cords in half, you will end up with 8 strands to work with.
Step 3: Tie rows of Alternating Square Knots, until the panel reaches the top of the ring, where the wire is connected.
Step 4: Bring cords 1 and 8 behind the ring, and the rest of the cords in front of it. Tie a tight Square Knot using 1 and 8 as the working cords and the rest as fillers. Apply glue to the knot and allow it to dry. Trim the ends to 1-inch.
Step 5: Repeat steps 1 thru 4 to make the second ear. |

| |
Making the Face |
| |
Step 6: Mount the 6mm cords for the face (white) to the top of the ring with Larks Head knots. Place one cord on either side of the SK made with the pink strands in steps 4 and 5. Two should be placed between the ears.
Step 7: Mentally number the cords 1 thru 12. Move down 2 inches. Tie a Square knot with cords 1 thru 4, and another one with cords 9 thru 12.
Step 8: Place the bead for the eyes on the filler cords (2 and 3 as well as 10 and 11). Tie a Square Knot directly under the beads, using the same strands.
Step 9: Attach the cords you were just using to the bottom of the ring, with Double Half Hitches. This works better if you direct each strand under the ring first. |
| |
Step 10: Use cords 5 thru 8 to make the nose of the Easter Bunny. Start by moving down 2½ inches. Tie a Square knot, so it’s lined up with the SK that you tied under the beads.
Move down ¼-inch, and tie 4 more Square Knots to make a short sennit. Next, direct the ends back up into the space, forming a SK Button. Tie a Square Knot just below to secure it.
Step 11: Attach cords 5 thru 8 to the bottom of the ring with DHH. |

Designing the Body and Legs |
| |
Step 12: Take the 36-inch piece of wire and make an Oval shape with it. Attach it to the head of the Easter Bunny by wrapping the ends around the ring twice. They should be placed on either side of the knots. This creates a frame for the body.
Step 13: Attach all the cords to the bottom of the wire frame, with DHH.
Step 14: Take two of the 36-inch cords for the legs of the Easter Bunny, and fold them in half. Secure them to either a project board or your work surface. Place them side-by-side.
Mentally number the ends 1 thru 4. Tie a sennit of 6 Square Knots, using cords 1 and 4 as the working cords.
Step 15: Repeat step 14, to make the second leg. |
| |
Step 16: Attach the legs to the front of the body as follows:
Direct the filler cords of one leg between strands 3 and 4 in the body. The working cords need to pass on either side of those two strands.
Flip the Easter Bunny over and tie a tight Square knot, using the same working cords and fillers. This will bring all the cords in the front leg to the back of the design.
Repeat the process again, attaching the other leg to body cords 9 and 10. |
| |
Step 17: To start the back legs, mount 6 of the 36-inch cords to the lower curve of the body, with Larks Head Knots. They should be placed to the right of the cords already in place.
Do the same on the left, mounting the remaining 6 cords. Mentally number the cords in each group 1 thru 12.
Step 18: Tie the first row of ASK using all the strands, in groups of four. There will be three knots.
Step 19: The next row of ASK will consist of two knots, made with cords 3 thru 10.
Step 20: Tie one SK using cords 5 thru 8.
Step 21: Tie a sennit of Square Knots using strands 1 and 12 as the working cords. The remaining cords (2 thru 11) are the fillers. Tie a total of 5 knots. The last one should be very tight. Apply glue to the last knot and allow plenty of drying time. Trim the excess to 2-inches.
Step 22: Repeat steps 18 thru 21 to make the other leg. |
| |
| |
Finishing Touches |
| |
Step 23: Trim and unravel the ends of all the cords already present. Brush them to create the fur for the Easter Bunny.
Step 24: Take the remaining 6mm material and cut pieces that are approximately 6 inches long. Attach them to the existing cords, ring and frame with Larks Head Knots. Unravel and brush each one. Take your time, and trim as needed to produce a neat design. |
