Diamond Weave Curtain
|

|
| |
| Description: I made this Diamond Weave Curtain many years ago, and decided it should be shared. It's an easy Macrame project, suitable for a beginner. The instructions are for 1 panel, which turns out to be around 12 inches wide and 25 inches long. To make a wider curtain, simply design as many panels as necessary to cover your window, and attach them to the curtain rod side by side. |

| |
Supplies Needed:
- 6mm Cord – Cotton, Nylon, or other material
(You’ll need 50 yards for each panel)
- Curtain Rod
- 1 Dowel – the same width as the rod, and ½ inch thick.

Cutting and Preparing Cords |
| |
Cut 16 strands of cord material, each 108 inches long (3 yards).
Prepare the ends with glue, wax, or tape to prevent unraveling. For more information, see Cord Preparation.
Step 1: Mount all the strands to the Curtain Rod with Larks Head Knots, folding them in half in the process. When finished you will have 32 strands to work with. |

Desigining the Top Section |
| |
Step 2: Divide the cords into groups of 4 strands. Tie 1 Square knot in each group, using the 2 outside strands as working cords, and the other two as the fillers.
Step 3: Tie a row of Alternating Square knots, but make 2 knots instead of one. Step 4: Repeat steps 2 and 3 two more times. Then repeat step 2, so you end with a row consisting of single Square knots. |

Weaving the Diamond Design |
| |
Step 5: Mentally number the strands 1 thru 32, heading left to right. Attach cords #17 thru #32 to the left end of the dowel, with Double Half Hitches.
These knots should rest 10 inches below the last row of Square Knots tied in step 4 of the Diamond Weave Curtain. |
| |
Step 6: Direct cords #1 thru #4 to the right. Weave through the other strands as follows: Under cords 17 – 20, and over 21 – 24. Pass under cords 25 – 28 and over 29 – 32.
Step 7: Attach cords 1 – 4 to the dowel with DHH, so they rest just to the right of the others already mounted.
Step 8: Use cords # 5 thru 8 next. Pass over cords 17 – 20, and under 21 – 24. To finish the weaving, go over 25 – 28 and under cords 29 –32.
Step 9: Attach these cords to the dowel with DHH, just as you did in step 7. They should rest to the right of the others. |
| |
Step 10: For the third group (cords 9 thru 12), repeat the weaving process of step 6. Attach these strands to the dowel with DHH.
Step 11: Use the final group of 4 strands, and weave them through the others as you did in step 8. Attach them to the dowel. These strands will be resting furthest to the right.
Step 12: Make sure the Diamond Weave Curtain hangs evenly. You will be able to tell if it does by looking at the dowel. If for some reason it's not even, adjust the DHH knots as needed. |
| |
| |
Creating the Bottom Section |
| |
Step 13: Repeat steps 2 thru 4.
Step 14: Cut 8 stands of cord material, each 9 inches long. Use these strands to make a Wrapped Knot in each group of 4 cords. It should rest just below the last row of Square knots tied in step 13. Apply glue to the entire knot, and cut off any excess (from the short cords). |
| |
Step 15: Trim all the ends so they are even. Apply 1 or more beads to the ends, followed by a Barrel Knot.
Reminder: The Diamond Weave Curtain design described above is for one panel. Since most windows are over 12 inches wide, you will need to make additional panels. The number will depend on how wide the curtain needs to be. |
