Diamond Plant Hanger
|
| |
|
| |
Description: The Diamond Plant Hanger features the Diamond Stitch as well as a Lanyard Knot Chain. These decorative knots are not used all that often in Macrame, that's why I like to use them. Originally designed as a Bird Bath, I changed this Macrame pattern to be used for plants. Birds can get caught in it, and possibly sustain injuries. Since I love animals of all types, I felt it necessary to re-design the pattern.

Cutting and Mounting the Cords |
| |
Step 1: Cut 8 strands of cord, 200 inches each (5.5 yards). Prepare the ends in some manner to prevent unraveling. See Cord Preparation for more details. |
| |
| |
 |
|
Step 2: Mount each strand onto the 2-inch square with Lark’s Head Knots, folding them in half as you do so. There should be 2 cords mounted on each side of the square. |

Designing the Cradle |
| |
Step 3: Tie Square Knots with the 4 strands on each side of the square. There should be 2 working cords, and 2 fillers per knot. These knots should rest next to the Larks Heads.
Note: The design you just made is the bottom of the Diamond Plant Hanger, and the plant pot rests on it.
Step 4: Alternate cords, choosing 2 strands from adjacent knots tied in step 3. Tie another row of Square Knots 3 inches away from the others.
Step 5: Alternate cords again, so you use the strands coming from the same side of the square, for each knot. Leave 2 inches of space, and make a Sailor Knot, using 2 strands working together, for each half of the knot.
Repeat this process four more times, for a total of 5 Sailor Knots. Make sure you have the same amount of space between them.
Step 6: Repeat steps 4 and 5 with the other three groups.
Step 7: Attach all 16 cords to one of the 5-inch squares with Double Half Hitches. Make sure there are 4 cords per side, and the designs you just made are not twisted. |

Diamond Stitch Design |
| |
| |
 |
|
Step 8: Make a row of Diamond Stitch knots beginning at one of the corners, using 2 cords per knot. The strand you use for the first knot need to come from different sides of the square. Tighten these knots so they rest close to the square added in step 7. |
|
|
| |
| |
 |
|
Step 9: Alternate the strands and make a second row of the same type of knot. Repeat this process for 3 additional rows.
Step 10: Attach the cords to the 3-inch square with Double Half Hitches. |

| Step 11: Make a Lanyard Knot (multiple strand variation) using four groups, each consisting of 4 strands (working together). Adjust the knot so it rests inside the square, and is symmetrical. Then make 5 more Lanyard Knots, all tied in the same direction, to form the spiral chain. |
| |
| |
Finishing Touches |
| |
Step 12: Cut an additional piece of cord, 36 inches long. Bundle all the strands together and pass them through the 2-inch ring. Fold them, and tie a Wrapped knot around all the strands, just outside the ring. Cut off the remainder, and apply glue to the entire wrapped portion.
When the glue is completely dry, insert the plant into the Diamond Plant Hanger, so it sits on the bottom square, with the 4 Sailor Knot sennits surrounding it. |
