Christmas Tree Decoration
|
| |
|
| |
| Description:
This Christmas Tree Decoration is an easy Macrame pattern,
suitable for a beginner. There is a short fringe at the bottom
and an optional Pompom at the top. The “ornaments”
are brightly colored beads. You can use any type of beads,
but round ones look like real ornaments. Try using wood beads
and apply glue to the outer surface. Roll them in glitter
to give this tree a festive look. |
| |
Supplies Needed:
- 6mm Macrame cord, yarn, or similar material (27 yards total)
- 15 Beads, 18mm to 20mm in diameter
|
| |
Knots Used:
|
| |
| Step 1: |
- Cut 8 strands of cord, each 72 inches long (2 yards)
- Cut 6 strands, each 54 inches long (1.5 yards)
- Cut 2 strands, 36 inches long (1 yard)

| Step 2: Take
four (4) 72-inch cords and match up one end. Use one of the
36-inch cords and make a Wrapped Knot around the 4 strands.
Start the wraps about 4 inches from the ends. When finished, cut off the remainder of the cord used to make the wraps, close to the design. |

Designing the Body |
| |
| Step 3:
Tie one Square Knot with the four cords. All the
knots in this Christmas Tree Decoration will be tied with 2 fillers. |
| |
Step 4: Add
one 72-inch cord to the 2 strands furthest to the right,
with a Square Knot. You do this by placing the new cord
centered underneath the ones you will be tying it to, and
secure it with tape or a pin. Then tie the knot, using the new strands as the working cords. Add another
cord to the other 2 strands, in the same way.
Note: Each time you are asked to add
cords, you will do so in this manner. |
| |
| Step 5:
You should now have 8 strands to work with. Add a bead to
the middle 2 strands (#4 and #5). Separate the cords into two groups of four. Then tie a Square Knot in each group,so they rest just below the beads. There
should be 2 knots in this row.
Note: Always count left to right, and
include the new cords, when determining where the beads
will be placed in the Christmas Tree decoration.
|
| |
| Step 6: Add 2
more 72-inch cords, as you did in step 4. Attach them to the
two strands furthest to the right and left. Add 2 beads, sliding one
over strands 4 and 5, and the other over 8 and 9. Tie a row
of Square knots so they rest just below the beads. There will
be 3 knots in this row. |
| |
| Step 7: Add 2
of the 54-inch cords to the outside strands, in the same manner.
Then add 3 beads, to strands 4 and 5, 8 and 9, 12 and 13.
Tie Square knots just below the beads. There will be 4
knots in this row. |
| |
| Step 8: Add 2
more 54-inch cords to the outside strands, followed by 4 beads.
The beads will be on strands 4 and 5, 8 and 9, 12 and 13,
16 and 17. Then tie the Square Knots just below. There are
5 knots in this row. |
| |
| Step 9:
Add the final two 54-inch cords, as you did in previous steps.
Then add 5 beads. Slide them on 4 and 5, 8 and 9, 12 and 13,
16 and 17, 20 and 21. There should be 6 Square knots
below the beads when you are finished with this portion of
the Christmas Tree decoration. |

Bottom Section |
| |
| Step 10:
Use Cord #1 on the left, and direct it over all the other
strands, heading left to right. Secure it so it’s taut.
Attach cords 2 through 10 to it, using Double Half Hitches.
It’s easiest if you work left to right.
Step 11: Use Cord #28 on the right, and
direct it over the strands, heading right to left. Attach
cords 19 through 27 to it. It’s easier if you work
right to left.
|
| |
| Step 12: Use
those same 2 cords (#1 and #28) to tie 2 Square Knots around
the 8 strands left that were not used in steps 10 and 11 (Cords
11 thru 18). The 8 strands will act as fillers for the knots.
Use the remaining 36-inch cord to tie a Wrapped Knot around
all 10 strands, starting just below the Square knots. Make
the wrapped design approximately 5 inches long. Cut off any
remainder. |
| |
| |
Finishing Touches |
| |
| Step 13: Trim
the loose strands to 1 or 2 inches, and unravel them to form
the fringe. If you wish, you can add beads instead, followed
by an Overhand or Barrel knot. If you want the Pompom at the
top of the Christmas Tree decoration, unravel the cords, and
brush until fluffy. If you prefer no Pompom, you can tie Barrel
knots in the cords at the top, or apply beads. |
