Description:
These Celtic Circle Earrings are unique and attractive.
The circular pattern is a Celtic symbol that represents
the concept that all forms of life are interconnected. The
design is very popular with Celtic artisans, and is seen
in many works of art. These casual earrings have both circular
and linked elements, so fit the symbolism well.
Supplies Needed:
- 1mm Round Leather, or 2mm Braided Macramé Cord
- (2) Earring hooks
- (2) Beads with large holes (Crow Rollers work well).
- Project Board and Pins
Knots used: Celtic
Circle Knot, Overhand
Knot
Step 1: Cut one strand of cord 30 inches
long, for each earring. Remember to use the Cross-Pin Technique
if using leather. See Knotting
Tips for more information. Secure one end to your Project
Board.
Step 2: Begin the Celtic Circle design
approximately 6 inches from the end. Make the loops as small
as you can. When finished, tighten the knot gradually, making
sure all loops are approximately the same size. The entire
knot should be about the size of a silver dollar. You don’t
want the earrings to be too large.
Step 3: Feed the ends through a bead.
Then add the earring hook to one of the strands. Direct
it back through the bead. Leave a little loop so the hook
can move freely. Use the other strand, and tie an Overhand
Knot around the cord with the hook. Then direct the second
end back through the bead.
Step 4: Tie an Overhand Knot below the
bead, using both strands. Make sure the ends end up in the
back of the earring. Cut off the remaining cord, and apply
glue to the entire knot to secure it.
Step 5: Repeat steps 1 thru 4 for the
second earring.
To vary the pattern, you could make a Celtic
Button Knot just below the hook. If using cord other
than leather, try making the Linen
Stitch as the final knot.
