Cell Phone Loop
| |
| |
Description: This Cell phone Loop uses a technique known as the Portuguese Sennit. It is also called the Solomon Bar. Essentially, it is a chain of knots, tied around a loop. This is a great way to make a strap for cell phones, keys, and other light items. You have the opportunity to choose from several different decorative knots, so be sure to go to their individual pages in Learn Macrame to see what they all look like. This is a good Macrame project for groups of children, teens and beginners. |

Step 1: Cut one strand of cord, 72 inches long. Fold the cord in half. Make an Overhand knot with the doubled cord. |
| |
| |
Pass the folded end through it to make a Slipknot. Tighten it approximately 7 inches from the fold, which should be dangling below the knot. There should be two small loops above the Slipknot. |
| |
| |
Step 2: Direct the two ends (working cords) to either side of the folded portion (fillers). |
| |
| |
Make a chain of knots, beginning close to the Slipknot. End the chain approximately 1 inch from the fold.
In the image, I made a Vertical Larks Head sennit. The tan colored Cell Phone Loop at the top of the page was made with a Half Hitch pattern. |

| |
| Here are a few decorative knots that can be used to create the knotted portion: |
| |
| |
| Step 3: Direct the ends through a charm, button, bead, or similar decoration. |
| |
Step 4: Pass the ends through the folded area from different directions. The space you need to go through is between the fold and the last knot tied. One end should head into it from the top and the other from below. |
| |
Step 5: Pull on the small loops above the Slipknot. This action will catch and lock in the ends at the bottom of the design. You will end up with two large loops at the top. Tie a tight Square Knot with the 2 ends (no fillers). If you wish, you can apply glue to the knot before cutting off the excess.
To connect the Cell Phone Loop to the phone, pass the large loops through the ring or space, depending on the type of phone you have. Form a Larks Head knot by directing the knotted portion of the design through the loop. |
